Welcome, to the Royal Queensland Art Society (Rockhampton Branch) Inc website. Our website will introduce you to some of the best artists in Central Queensland.
RQAS members meet and paint in Room 1.1, Walter Reid Building. It is a wonderfully creative historical landmark. Our club room is light, bright and well appointed. It incorporates the renowned Upstairs Gallery, a great space to display members' work. We welcome new members and invite amateurs and professionals alike to support each other on our creative journeys.
In regional Queensland it can sometimes be difficult for artists to network with each other, to grow in their skills and expression and find a space to exhibit their work. The RQAS is indeed such a place, and has been an important group for local artists for 60 years.
Congratulations to Coral who won the Open Section at the Show. This section was sponsored by our club. It was great to see one of our members win it. What I was particularly happy about was the increase in entries in this section (there were 24 entries) especially RQAS Members’ entries. Well done to all who participated. Read the results further in the Notes and News.
I’m urging Members to have input in the club’s involvement in the Creative Capricorn’s event Walter’s Street Party. As the purpose of this is to raise the profile of the Walter Reid Cultural Centre I urge all members to read about it in the Notes and News and get involved.

Last but not least, we would like to congratulate both Marlene and Lyn on making the final cut in this year's Bayton Award held at the Rockhampton Art Gallery. The exhibition runs for a little while longer, if you'd like to go and see some great local talent, and vote for your favorite. Well done ladies!
INTRODUCING... THURSDAY PAINTING GROUP!
Following the success of the Wednesday evening non-tutored painting group, we are offering a Thursday painting group. This is offered to all members and non-members. June and Lyn will be facilitating this activity.
Costs will be $2 for members and $4 for non-members. This goes towards the cost of electricity. A cup of tea or coffee is included. Starts Thursday 14 February at 9:00am until you wish.
Now you can come in to paint Friday mornings, Wednesday evenings and Thursday.
History of the RQAS Rockhampton Branch...
The Rockhampton Art Society has a long and proud history of supporting the arts and artists in Central Queensland. The group first formed in 1947 and has been affiliated with the RQAS for over 60 years. During that time the Rockhampton Art Society has evolved into the vibrant club it is today.
Our clubroom also has its own gallery known as the Upstairs Gallery. A wide selection of paintings are always on display for the public to view and purchase. For gallery times see the Contact Us page.
The monthly newsletter Notes and News is the main form of communication for Members. This is a vital tool for keeping Members up to date with what is happening in the club. Visit the Newsletter page to read all the news...
