Welcome!

Welcome, to the Royal Queensland Art Society (Rockhampton Branch) Inc website. Our website will introduce you to some of the best artists in Central Queensland.

RQAS members meet and paint in Room 1.1, Walter Reid Building.  It is a wonderfully creative historical landmark.  Our club room is light, bright and well appointed.  It incorporates the renowned Upstairs Gallery, a great space to display members' work.  We welcome new members and invite amateurs and professionals alike to support each other on our creative journeys.

In regional Queensland it can sometimes be difficult for artists to network with each other, to grow in their skills and expression and find a space to exhibit their work.  The RQAS is indeed such a place, and has been an important group for local artists for 60 years.

Lyn's Lines

Thank you to the Members who helped out at the Sausage Sizzle. Helen, Heather, Judy and Ty Tarlington and myself were there all day. Marlene and Pam also helped out. Special thanks to Ruth who pre-cooked and delivered sausages and onions so we could trade right from the beginning; to Vanessa who bought and delivered 40 loaves of bread: to Annette who bought the ice and worked as well

and to June who bought and sliced up many kilograms of onions... Thank goodness we have members who are willing to give a little of themselves to help the club. We’d sink without you. We made a nice profit of $800.

Cheers, Lyn

SMELL THOSE DAGWOOD DOGS!

Rocky Show- 7th-9th June Sell YOUR art at the Show!

All members are eligible to bring in their art works for sale at our stand in the Walter Pierce Pavilion. There are no nomination fees nor do we take out any commission. What you make is all yours.

This is also a venue when you may sell any photograph prints you have or gift or greeting cards you’ve produced. All we expect is that you do a roster spot or, if unable, arrange for someone else to do it for you. Please remember if it is a copy of someone else’s work then you can’t sign it. Instead you must say on the painting that it is a copy. You should also have the artist’s permission to sell it.

If it was completed at a workshop then you must NOT ATTEMPT TO SELL IT WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF THE TUTOR.  Karol Oakley was asked about this matter at her recent workshop and her decisive answer was ‘NO YOU CANNOT SELL IT’.

Please remember the importance of recognising the creative and intellectual property of all artists.

Bring in your artwork on Thursday 6 June and help set up between 9:00 and 10:00am.  Roster is now up in the clubroom or you can phone Lyn or June as we desperately need more volunteers. Even if you are not exhibiting you are most welcome to help out. You will also receive a free pass to the show.

As we are a Show Sponsor our logo and some information will be placed onto the official Show website. You will also hear a ‘radio ad’ about our club being done by the Show Spruiker and our banner will also be on display.

INTRODUCING... THURSDAY PAINTING GROUP!

Following the success of the Wednesday evening non-tutored painting group, we are offering a Thursday painting group. This is offered to all members and non-members. June and Lyn will be facilitating this activity.

Costs will be $2 for members and $4 for non-members. This goes towards the cost of electricity. A cup of tea or coffee is included. Starts Thursday 14 February at 9:00am until you wish.

Now you can come in to paint Friday mornings, Wednesday evenings and Thursday.

EXHIBITION 2013

The categories have been announced!

Next year's event will be entitled: INSPIRATIONS

Challenge category: POINTILLISM, any subject/medium (but excluding Indigenous painting)

(Pointillism is a technique of painting in which dots of colour are applied in which to form an image- but you already knew that!)

Change to Challenge Category for next year:

Prize: A cash prise and the perpetual Past Presidents' trophy.  The winner will be judged by the guest speaker and awarded on the night, to the adulation of all!

WHY?: The addition of a cash prize makes the challenge MORE of a challenge, not just a theme.  Being awarded on the night makes it more exciting for all who attend.

These changes were decided at the November meeting.

WEDNESDAY EVENING PAINT IN'S

A number of members have requested permission to hold evening painting for artists who wish to come together to form an informal, self-help painting session. It will start on Wednesday 31 October and run from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Members who attend are to pay the room levy of $2 and non-members $4. For more information phone secretary Annette on 0431 801 544. All members are invited to come along and enjoy this friendship art group.
